Language Evaluator

The role of the Language Evaluator is to help members refine and enhance their skill with words. The Language Evaluator listen carefully for grammatical errors and improper use of language during the entire meeting. The Language Evaluator also makes note of especially effective language use, such as analogies, catchy phrases, alliterations, etc. The Language Evaluator's Report usually follows the final speech evaluation, so that the Evaluators are included in the report. Language Evaluators should be relatively comfortable with the English language, but they don’t need to be experts. Language Evaluators can also call upon the assistance of other members if needed.

Prior to the Meeting

• Discuss theme with Toastmaster and choose appropriate Word of the Day (WOD)
• Prepare WOD with definition and short sample sentence (minimum 48 point font)
• Communicate WOD to Toastmaster for inclusion on Agenda
  

Before the meeting

• Write the WOD on the white board with the pronunciation and short definition.

During the Meeting

• Listen carefully for examples of poor language use and record them
• Listen carefully for examples of very strong language use and record them
  
  

During the Report

• Provide a brief overview of the Grammarian role
• Read out the names of those who used the WOD in their presentations
• Provide praise for well-spoken phrases and words of unusual effectivenesse
• Go over any poor language usage and explain why it is incorrect
  
• Go over words that have been mispronounced and provide the correct pronunciation
